Using URL Query Parameters

URL query parameters offer a powerful way to pass essential user and group information directly through URLs. This facilitates seamless user and group identification by Dreamdata’s analytics.js script, enhancing tracking accuracy across websites or within email campaigns.

Supported Query Parameters

Dreamdata recognizes specific query parameters to perform identify and group events automatically. Here's how you can use them:

For User Identification

  • User ID (dd_uid): Identifies a unique user.
    • Example: ?dd_uid=1234
  • Anonymous ID (dd_aid): Identifies a user anonymously.
    • Example: ?dd_aid=d66123be-4903-4123-90c8-bce5bf1237b
  • User Email: Not directly mentioned but implies identifying users via their email addresses.

For Group Association

  • Group ID (dd_gid): Associates activities with a specific company ID.
    • Example: ?dd_gid=5678
  • Group Website (dd_group_website): Associates activities with a specific company website.
    • Example: ?dd_group_website=dreamdata.io

Practical Use Cases

  • Cross-Website Tracking: Use these parameters to maintain user identification across different domains, particularly useful in multi-site environments.
  • Email Campaigns: Enhance link effectiveness by ensuring users are automatically identified when they click a link, optimizing post-click activity tracking.
  • Account-Based Marketing (ABM): Leverage Group ID and Group Website parameters to target and track engagements at the company level, even without specific user identifiers.

Example URL with Parameters

Combine these parameters as needed in your URLs:

www.yourdomain.com?dd_uid=1234&dd_aid=d66123be-4903-4123-90c8-bce5bf1237b&dd_gid=5678&dd_group_website=dreamdata.io

Utilizing URL query parameters allows for refined tracking and identification strategies, enriching data quality and actionable insights within Dreamdata. Ensure these parameters are incorporated thoughtfully within your digital marketing strategies to maximize their potential.
